Why we shot a video for President Goodluck Jonathan - Rita Dominic
Nollywood leading actress, Rita Dominic has broken
away from her normal routine of acting to romance
politics in the heat of the around-the-corner
presidential election. In a letter she wrote to her
fans, Rita explained why she and her company,
Audrey Silva, a company she co-owns with her
manager, Midred Okwo, shot a video to support
President Goodluck Jonathan re-election bid.
According to her, President Goodluck Jonathan has
done more for Nollywood than any Nigerian
President in history.
"I want to let everybody know that I will be
supporting and voting for President Goodluck
Jonathan. I am making this decision because he has
affected my immediate constituency which is
Nollywood more than any president in the history
of Nigeria.

A lot of people think that fame has altered your
personality. Is this true?
People have the right to believe whatever they want to.
There is nobody in this world that would attain this level of
success and fame, and remain the same. My life has
changed and I am not going to tell you otherwise. I am not
Iyanya of eight years ago; I am more exposed and have
more fans. You can’t compare the pressure that was on
me in 2008 to the pressure on me now. For me to even
have this level of sanity, I believe it is God’s grace and
people should pray and support me instead of
saying I have changed. You see me wearing nice suits but
if I give a fan my life to live for a week, not everybody will
agree to continue after a few days.
Why do you think so?
There is a lot of money but it comes with a lot of pressure.
Imagine waking up to people being rude to you on social
media. You wake up to curses because you tweeted that
God just blessed you with a car, for instance.
But you show off on social media…
Sincerely, I don’t show off. Anybody that thinks I show off
is suffering from inferiority complex. The only people that
think I show off are those people that think they could be
me or people who wish they could be close to me but
can’t be. Maybe they like me too much and don’t want to
agree they like me that much. These same people spend
hours admiring the posts I put up.

INEC Officially Shifts Nigeria’s Election Date To March 28 And April 11
In the new schedule announced on Saturday by the Chairman
of the commission, Professor Attahiru Jega said that the
Presidential Election will hold on March 28 while the
Governorship election will hold on April 11.
Professor Jega said that the commission had had wide range
consultations with relevant stakeholders before the decision
was taken.
He said that the decision of the commission was in the
interest of Nigeria’s democracy.

Again, Abuja Residents Protest Postponement Of Elections
possibility of postponing the already scheduled general
elections.
At the Unity Fountain, near the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, where
protesters gathered, an armoured police vehicle and other
utility vehicles were seen parked with police officers scattered
around the area.
The protesters were however blocked by police officers as
they marched towards the headquarters of the Independent
National Electoral Commission.
A lady who simply identified herself as Sadatu said it was
very wrong and unfair for anyone to consider postponing the
elections.
“How can anybody think of this? That’s not fair, INEC had
four whole years to prepare for this election. If we could have
an election in 2011 when much was not in place, why not
now?” she asked.
Valentines Day - Love is NOT Just For Couples!
Valentines Day. Who says that this day should be restricted
only to romantic love? No other day can conjure such
powerful imagery of chocolate, flowers, romance and love. It
is a commercially driven day that provokes strongly divided
reactions to the bewildering display of hearts, and starry-eyed
romance. For those in stable, loving relationships, the day
offers a wonderful opportunity to express or reaffirm their
love. For those who are recently bereaved, divorced, or single,
this is a day that can trigger feelings of overwhelming
loneliness and grief.
While Valentine’s Day is merely an arbitrary day that we use
as a light hearted way to express our feelings to our partners,
it is also true that this day sustains the myth that all couples
are happy. With divorce rates where they are in North
America, it is apparent that not all couples are “loving”.
Without intending to bash this “feel-good” day, after all, we
can all benefit from an expression of love, it seems that
Valentines Day may be more widely accepted if it was truly a
day for love. Not just romantic love between couples, but love
in all of its forms.
Many people who find themselves alone on this day, struggle
with past hurts, grief, and feelings of inadequacy. While they
are bombarded with images of happy couples, it is important
that they remember that their identity is not defined by their
relationship status. A person’s worth comes from who they
are, not who they are with. While most would agree that this
is true, it doesn’t dull the inevitable feelings of self-doubt and
inadequacy that arise when besieged by the ubiquitous love
heart at every turn.

Jennifer Lopez and Ex Casper Smart Reunite! Details on the Former Couple's Night Out With Nick Jonas
Jennifer Lopez and ex-boyfriend Casper Smart reunited once
again last night and we've got all the details on the former
couple's evening in Hollywood.
On Thursday night, the 27-year-old dancer and choreographer
attended the Z Zegna and GQ event to celebrate the new Zegna
collection at Phillymack Studios. During the bash, Smart hung
out with Nick Jonas and his big brother Joe Jonas. "He was in
a really happy mood," a source told E! News of Smart. "He
talked to Nick and Joe and also Reggie Bush."
Smart left the party between 9:30 and 10 p.m.
Smart then met up with J.Lo at Hotel Café in Hollywood for
another bash where Queen Latifah, Meek Mills and Nick Jonas
all performed. During the bash, an insider tells us Lopez and
Smart didn't get into any touchy-feely PDA but were definitely
together.
The duo also left the party together and Lopez was later seen
at Kitchen 24 restaurant in West Hollywood with Jonas and
another man who could have been Smart.
J.Lo and Smart broke up in June 2014 after about three and a
half years together. Last month, a source told E! News that
Lopez and Smart were hanging out again but but were in no
way "getting back together...Sometimes it's hard to say
goodbye for good when your lives are so intertwined. And they
genuinely like one another. But unlikely they will get back
together."

Brazilian girl, 6, 'eaten' by piranhas and found dead
A six-year-old girl has been found dead in Brazil after being
surrounded and devoured by a large shoal of piranhas.
Family members said she was with her grandmother and four
other children in a canoe, which capsized in a storm.
Her grandmother managed to bring the other children back
into the boat, but was not able to reach the victim, named by
local media outlets as Adrila Muniz.
A group of townspeople in the northern state of Para helped to
search for the girl, but found her unresponsive.
The incident happened in the Maicuru River near the town of
Monte Alegre on the afternoon of 27 January.
Family members told some local media that the girl may have
drowned shortly after falling into the river, and could have
been dead prior to being set upon by the piranhas.
Her body was taken to the morgue at a hospital in Monte
Alegre, and graphic post-mortem photographs show that
virtually all the flesh was stripped from her legs.
Piranhas are freshwater fish with razor-sharp teeth, and travel
in large shoals for protection from predators. While attacks on
humans are extremely rare, they can be deadly.
Another six-year-old child, Eduardo dos Santos de Sousa, died
in 2012 after piranhas devoured the flesh on his forearm near
the town of Curua, also in the state of Para.

Boko Haram Invades Northern Cameroon, Kills 90 Civilians - Foreign Affairs
YAOUNDE, Cameroon — Boko Haram fighters have shot or
burned to death about 90 civilians and wounded 500 in
ongoing fighting in a Cameroonian border town near Nigeria,
officials in Cameroon said Thursday.
Some 800 Islamic extremists attacking the town of Fotokol
have ‘‘burned churches, mosques and villages and
slaughtered youth who resisted joining them to fight
Cameroonian forces,’’ Information Minister Issa Tchiroma
Bakari said.
The insurgents from Nigeria also looted livestock and food in
the fighting that began Wednesday and was continuing
Thursday, Bakari told The Associated Press.
Boko Haram is using civilians as shields, making it difficult
to confront them although reinforcements have arrived in
Fotokol, according to military spokesman Col. Didier
Badjeck.
Schools also have been razed by the insurgents, whose
nickname, Boko Haram, means ‘‘Western education is
forbidden’’ in the Hausa language.
Hundreds of insurgents were killed Wednesday compared to
the loss of 13 Chadian and 6 Cameroonian troops, Defense
Minister Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo said. At least 91 civilians
have been killed and most of more than 500 wounded people
cannot be immediately taken to the hospitals, he said. There
was no way to immediately confirm the account
independently.
The fighters are believed to have crossed into Cameroon
from nearby Gamboru, a Nigerian border town that had been
an extremist stronghold since November. Gamboru was
retaken earlier this week and the fighters driven out by
Chadian and Nigerian air strikes supported by Chadian
ground troops.
African Union officials on Thursday were finalizing plans for a
multinational force to fight the spreading Boko Haram
uprising, although there are questions about funding. The AU
last week authorized a 7,500-strong force from Nigeria and
its four neighbors, Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin.
Senior officers from the U.N. peacekeeping department are
attending the meeting in Yaounde, Cameroon’s capital, said
a U.N. official.
The Africans want U.N. Security Council approval and money
to fund the mission, said the official who spoke Wednesday
at the United Nations and insisted on anonymity because he
was not authorized to speak to the press on the meeting.
France’s President Francois Hollande said Thursday his
country is providing support with weapons, logistics and
operations for the multinational effort. At a news conference
in Paris, he stopped short of saying whether France is
actually involved in military action itself. France has a big air
base at N’Djamena, the capital of Chad, which will lead the
multinational force.
International concern has grown as Boko Haram has
increased the tempo and ferocity of its attacks just as
Nigeria is preparing for presidential and legislative elections
on Feb. 14.
Some 10,000 people were killed in Boko Haram violence last
year compared to 2,000 in the first four years of Nigeria’s
Islamic uprising, according to the Council on Foreign
Relations.
