The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle
Amosun while on a campaign visit to Tai
Solarin University Of Education, Ijebu-ode on
Thursday, 29th January was attacked by some
angry students of the State-owned university
who appeared not to have forgiven him over
his numerous attempts to initially scrap the
institution.
On his arrival to the institution, TASUED
students on campus who became aware of his
presence immediately trooped out in large
numbers.
Initially, it appeared to the Governor and his
campaign team the students had gathered to
cheer them.
There was a wind of change when some
students hurriedly brought out sachets water
(pure water) and in a jiffy, it became a
chorused act as other furious students joined
in stoning Governor Ibikunle Amosun with
various objects they could lay their hands on.
The Governor became ruffled before he was
able to run to safety and quickly drove off
with his convoy.
Before now, Amosun had been against the
existence of the university, giving reason that
two state universities were too much for his
administration to handle.
This led to various protests by students of
TASUED, as well as the death of a student
leader, Com. Tunji Fashina.
Also, Nigerian Universities Commission, NUC
as a result of Amosun’s refusal to adequately
fund TASUED delisted courses offered in the
university from 48 to 23.
Just recently, Accounting course got delisted as
a course in TASUED.
This development has left many students
frustrated.
DAILY POST has gathered that TASUED Vice
Chancellor, Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade is seen as
an accomplice as she remains undisturbed
with the various happenings in the school
system.
