Elechi Nnanna Elechi, the son of Ebonyi State
governor, Martin Elechi, was on Thursday,
January 29, arrested by operatives of the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC).
Elechi, who reportedly arrived the
commission’s head office in Abuja, was
invited for questioning over allegations of
laundering worth millions.
According to Premium Times, the governor’s
son is alleged to be behind his family’s
company, which secured contracts from the
state and local governments, but however,
remain unexecuted, four months before his
father’s teenure ends.
As at late on Thursday night, Elechi was yet to
be released by the anti-graft agency.
A week ago, the EFCC interrogated the
Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of
Works, Cornelius Onwe; while the state’s
Accountant General, Edwin Igbele;
Commissioner for Finance, Timothy
Ogbonnaya Odaa; and Commissioner for Local
government and Chieftaincy Matters, Cele
Nwali had earlier been being quizzed by
operatives of the EFCC, in Abuja.
They were quizzed over the fraud
perpertrated by the Elechi administration,
through an Asphalt Project for the 13 local
government of the state.
